Lground or sirloin steak
Onion ( diced in chunks)
Salt & pepper
Butter for browning the steak
- Cut up your steak in nice size chunks. In a cast iron frying pan,on med. heat,add some butter and brown your steak chunks, seasoned with salt & pepper, until nicely browned on all sides. Only add a liitle steak at a time as you want it to brown well and not so much cook in juices.
- Put your cooked steak chunks into a pot and keep frying your steak until all your steak has been browned.When you are done browning all the steak, add a little water to the pan & scrape up all the browning bits & transfer to the pot also.
- Put enough water in the pot to cover your steak & simmer for an hour or more, or until steak is fork tender.After about an hour, add some beef broth to the mixture and your onions ( which i sauted for a few mins. in the frying pan.)
- When steak is nice and tender, mix up a little flour and water in a jar, shake well, and add to the steak mixture until u get a nice smooth gravy that is not too thick. Let simmer till heated through and serve over steamed rice or with mashed poatoes.
